SSC CHSL Recruitment for 2536 LDC, JSA & DEO Posts 2026

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) officially released the notification for the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026 on September 7, 2026. This recruitment drive aims to fill approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies for central government positions, including Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), and Data Entry Operator (DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’).

SSC CHSL 2026 Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification (As of October 7, 2026)

  • LDC / JSA & General DEO Posts: Passed Class 12 (Intermediate) or equivalent from a recognized board or university.
  • DEO / DEO Grade ‘A’ (Specialized Ministries): Passed Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics as a core subject (applicable to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, SSC, and Ministry of Culture).

2. Age Limit (As of August 1, 2026)

  • Minimum Age: 18 Years
  • Maximum Age: 27 Years
  • Note: Candidates must have been born between August 2, 1999 and August 1, 2008.

  • PwBD (Unreserved): 10 years
  • PwBD (OBC): 13 years

How to Apply?

Mode of application: Online

1. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR)

Visit the official portal ssc.gov.in and complete your OTR. Note that registration details from the old domain (ssc.nic.in) are invalid.

2. Fill Out the Application Form:

Log in with your OTR credentials, locate Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2026 under the ‘Apply’ tab, and fill in your details.

3. Capture Live Photo and Upload Signature:

Capture a clear live photo using a web camera or mobile camera in a well-lit environment. Upload a scanned copy of your signature in JPG/JPEG format (10 KB – 20 KB).

4. Pay Application Fee & Submit:

Pay the ₹100 registration fee using UPI, Net Banking, or Debit Card (Women, SC, ST, PwBD, and ESM candidates are exempt). Save and print your final confirmation form.

Tier-I Exam Pattern (Objective Computer-Based Test)

Tier-I consists of 100 multiple-choice questions totaling 200 marks. There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer.

Pay Scale & Salary Structure

Selected candidates receive salaries as per the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix, in addition to standard Central Government allowances (DA, HRA, TA):

  • Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA): Pay Level-2 (₹19,900 – ₹63,200)
  • Data Entry Operator (DEO): Pay Level-4 (₹25,500 – ₹81,100) or Level-5 (₹29,200 – ₹92,300)
  • Data Entry Operator Grade ‘A’: Pay Level-4 (₹25,500 – ₹81,100)

What’s New in SSC CHSL 2026? Key Rule Changes

The 2026 recruitment notification introduces major updates to the application and exam format:

  1. Sectional Timings in Tier-I Exam: Each of the four subjects in the Tier-I exam now features a mandatory 15-minute sectional timer.
  2. Aadhaar-Based Authentication: Candidates who complete One-Time Registration (OTR) with Aadhaar authentication receive simplified verification guidelines, preventing application rejection over minor photograph or signature format discrepancies.
  3. Mandatory Live Photo Capture: Pre-uploaded standard photographs are no longer accepted; candidates must capture a live photo using the browser or mySSC mobile app during the application.
  4. Reduced Answer Key Challenge Fee: The fee to challenge answer keys has been reduced to ₹50 per question (down from ₹100).
  5. Mangal Font Mandate for Hindi Typing: Candidates opting for the Hindi typing test must use the Mangal font strictly.
